The IMI AB5600 Variable Orifice Desuperheater delivers highly accurate steam temperature control for a wide range of industrial applications, including power generation, petrochemicals, refineries, LNG carriers, and process industries. Its innovative variable orifice design provides a 40:1 turndown ratio, allowing seamless adjustment to changing flow rates and ensuring stable performance even under fluctuating load conditions. The AB5600 achieves a control accuracy of ±3°C and can handle temperature differences up to 380°C, making it ideal for both general and severe service environments.
Unlike conventional desuperheaters, the AB5600 does not require atomising steam, and its self-recirculating drain system reduces maintenance requirements. The robust construction, with minimal moving parts, ensures long-term reliability and easy inspection. Available for steam piping from 2" to 30", the AB5600 is engineered for vertical installation and is suitable for both new projects and retrofit upgrades.
Thermal sleeve upgrade
The AB5600 can be equipped with a thermal sleeve that protects the inner valve body from high-temperature, high-velocity steam, significantly reducing wall thinning, pinhole formation, and housing erosion. This upgrade is available for both new and existing installations, and is especially valuable in environments where desuperheaters are exposed to demanding service over many years. By shielding critical internal surfaces, the thermal sleeve enhances durability, lowers the risk of leaks and unexpected shutdowns, and helps minimise costly emergency repairs. Plants operating AB5600 units or compatible models can benefit from extended equipment life and improved reliability, whether specifying the sleeve for new projects or retrofitting older assets following inspection findings.
