My IMI story – Subhashini Satyanarayana

“When I wake up each morning, my mantra is simple: 'Take it one step at a time - finish one small goal at a time.”
An approach that has guided Subhashini Satyanarayana through a 19-year journey at IMI, from Inside Sales Engineer to Global Growth Hub Leader.
“My journey with IMI began in February 2006 when I joined as an Inside Sales Engineer. What started as a technical role soon expanded into broader responsibilities across upgrades, sales administration, asset management, and strategic growth initiatives. Each step opened a new window into the business and set the foundation for the roles I hold today.
The most rewarding part of my work is being part of Growth Hub, where experimentation is encouraged. It’s the one place where we can make mistakes, learn, recover, and grow stronger, together. Every day brings a new challenge, and I love that my work helps IMI solve real customer problems and make a meaningful difference.”
Growing through every opportunity
"Every role I’ve taken on has pushed me to build new skills, collaborate across teams, and contribute to IMI’s long-term strategy. I’ve grown alongside the organisation, and IMI has shaped both my professional identity and my leadership style."
Subhashini's transition to her current role as Global Growth Hub Leader was a natural progression. Her experience across inside sales, upgrades, Salesforce-based asset management, and cross-functional projects provided a solid foundation.
"When I got the opportunity to lead Growth Hub initiatives, I stepped into the role by leveraging my understanding of processes, customer needs, and global collaboration."
Through Growth Hub and various strategic initiatives, her work helps strengthen IMI’s innovation engine. By shaping project pipelines, improving processes, and enabling cross-sector collaboration, she contributes to the long-term growth of the business and helps create customer-centric solutions that reinforce IMI’s competitive edge.
The person behind the professional
On the personal front, Subhashini describes herself as optimistic, curious and grounded, a mix of traits that help her tackle any challenges she faces in life. Her character very much comes from her parents, particularly her mother, whose quiet strength taught her that grace under pressure is a superpower.
“What many people won’t know about me is that I once dreamt of becoming a doctor. When I couldn’t follow that path, I chose engineering and gave it everything I had. That moment of turning disappointment into determination shaped who I am today. I learned that life doesn’t always go as planned, but it often leads you exactly where you’re meant to be.”
Although engineering may have been her second choice, Subhashini says she could well have become a teacher, a path that would have allowed her to share knowledge and inspire others – something she still tries to do in small ways every day. This love of learning comes very much from the influence of her parents.
“My parents came from humble beginnings, but always faced life with quiet determination. My father believed deeply in education. He would think twice before spending on a movie but never hesitated to buy us a book or a pen. My mother, who couldn’t attend college herself, was a strong advocate for women’s education and empowerment. She made sure her daughters had the opportunities she never did. Their story — of resilience, hope, and belief — is the one I carry within me.”
She is proud to be the first engineer in her family, graduating top of her class and now has a Bachelor’s degree in Instrumentation & Control Engineering and a Master’s in Manufacturing Management.

Finding balance and purpose
Subhashini was born in Chennai, India. She moved across various states before settling in Bangalore, Karnataka, with her husband and two boys. Bangalore has a diverse culture that adds a special charm to its mix of tradition and modernity. So, it’s no surprise Subhashini loves her life here.
“I enjoy singing, dancing (especially Indian classical dance), pencil sketching, and cooking. Creativity keeps me grounded — it’s like a reset button for the mind.”
Mindfulness and self-care are important to a healthy work-life balance. Her first step is to start her day with a morning workout or meditation. “A simple pleasure I never try to skip is exercise; it’s my time to recharge, both physically and mentally.”

IMI: More than just a workplace
A major turning point for Subhashini at IMI was leading the Salesforce-based Asset Management initiative and contributing to high-impact LNG projects during her tenure in the Upgrades business. These wins demonstrated the value of cross-functional collaboration and strengthened her path into strategic leadership roles, including her current position as Growth Hub Leader.
"IMI has always encouraged my personal development, whether through external programs, opportunities to work with global teams, or the trust placed in me to lead complex projects. The culture of support and mentorship has helped me build confidence, resilience, and a sense of belonging far beyond my day-to-day responsibilities.
The best part about IMI is the people - passionate, open, and supportive. IMI has given me space to grow, to learn, and to bring my whole self to work.
The IMI value that connects most deeply with me is “Always Care.” Whether it’s about my team, my work, or my family, I believe that genuine care builds trust and lasting impact. When we care, we listen better, collaborate more, and go that extra mile to make a difference.
As the Growth Hub Leader, I’ve learned the importance of clarity and alignment across sectors, functions, and project owners. I’ve also learned that innovation requires discipline: structured processes, data-driven decisions, and continuous stakeholder engagement. Above all, I’ve seen how powerful it is when diverse teams come together with a shared purpose."
Subhashini believes that motivation has to come from within, and this certainly stands out to her colleagues, who describe her as collaborative and never one to give up easily.
After work, Subhashini unwinds with a quiet cup of coffee, good music and laughter with her kids. Those moments bring her instant peace.
“I see work as one important box in the many compartments of life. When the day ends, I close that box and open the one that truly matters — my family. I’m grateful for the ability to switch off and switch on easily, which helps me stay balanced and present in both worlds.”
Final thoughts for inspiration
If there are two places that Subhashini holds dear, they are South Korea and Goa, India.
“South Korea inspired me with its discipline and innovation, while Goa reminded me of the joy in slowing down and living in the moment.
I truly believe that you must not let circumstances define your limits. Define them yourself. Theodore Roosevelt said, ‘Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.’ That is the quote that I live by.”
