Longer Serviceable Trim (LST) for low-flow cavitation control

Longer Serviceable Trim from IMI CCI is designed as an upgrade solution for 840 Series and 860 Series control valves operating at or below their intended range. In these conditions, conventional trims lose control effectiveness and become exposed to high local velocities and cavitation, driving wear, leakage and reduced reliability.LST addresses this by controlling where pressure drop occurs within the valve, maintaining stability at low openings while protecting critical components. The result is improved performance and significantly longer service life in demanding liquid applications.

Where issues occur

Control valves regulate flow through engineered passages that manage pressure and velocity. This works within the design range, but at low flow those passages close and control shifts to the clearance between the plug and cage. This creates concentrated energy and cavitation directly at the seating surface, accelerating erosion and degrading performance.

Cavitation at low flow conditions causes rapid erosion of valve trim, leading to leakage and reduced performance.

What LST changes

LST redistributes the pressure drop away from the seating surface and introduces controlled flow features within the trim. This reduces cavitation intensity at critical points, maintains stable control at low openings and limits damage.By addressing the root cause of low-flow wear, LST extends service intervals and improves reliability across a wider operating range.
