My IMI story – Madison Payne

From journalist and producer for an ABC News affiliate to Global Sales Enablement Manager for Process Automation at IMI, Madison Payne has her finger on the international pulse.

But when you ask her what’s more important, it’s the small kindnesses that make the most impact on her day.

“I live in a large town in East Texas called Tyler, known as the ‘Rose Capital of the World’, and I’ve been here since I was 10 years old. I’m extremely close with my family, especially my mum, who has been my biggest cheerleader and hero to this day. No matter the climate of things, she has always helped me see the magical moments in life and kindness in others.”

So, was Madison always destined to be in communications?

“I’ll be the first to admit I was not a stellar student growing up. I was much more interested in social activities, to say the least! That all changed at my college orientation; I was reeled into the student newspaper booth and asked if I would be interested in getting on staff. Who knew that my simple “sure” would change the course of my life?”

Madison changed her major and went on to win multiple national awards for her college before starting her career in marketing and communications. Now, in her role for IMI, she can use her former news producer lens to manage projects and achieve results by hitting every pressing deadline.

“My day starts by checking my calendar, brewing my first coffee and taking my office mates, my three dogs, outside for their morning run. Then I mentally prepare myself for the day ahead and get all the info I need together for meetings. The hardest part is actually the end of the day, knowing when to turn off and unplug, to keep the balance between work and personal life.”

When she does need to switch off, Madison loves hanging out with family and having a cold beer at the end of the day with her partner. But when she needs a smaller distraction, she indulges in her other hobby – throwing a few loops on the yo-yo.

Connecting with IMI

Despite having a close and supportive family, Madison still confesses to having to fight imposter syndrome and to prove to herself that she deserves and is capable of success. So, it’s no surprise that one of the elements of her job that she most enjoys involves cheerleading for others.

“In my current role at IMI, I am creating training material that influences and educates our sales teams. It’s gratifying to know that my work is enabling individuals to achieve their own successes.

There’s one quote I live by, and this is going to sound strange, but bear with me. ‘Fake it till you make it.’ Even when you’re unsure about your capabilities, don’t let doubt overrule. There’s nothing you can’t learn and excel at. Develop the mindset of an expert first, then become one.”

Balance is a key feature in Madison’s life – not just between work and home, but in what she gets back from IMI.

“One of the most rewarding parts of my job is contributing to something that makes an impact on the company as a whole. In return, the best part of working for IMI has been the people I’ve had the pleasure to work with, as well as the inclusive culture, celebrating diversity. IMI is a safe place to work for LGBTQIA+ employees.”

She may be working from a corner of East Texas, but Madison is always connected to her team. And with IMI, there are always opportunities to meet up.

“I’ll never forget my trip to Vienna for our IMI marketing get-together. Connecting with my colleagues and forming relationships that I cherish dearly. Everything about that trip was wonderful, from the people to fantastic work collaboration and education down to the beautiful location. I’ll be forever thankful for that trip, jet lag and all!”

Final thought

Looking back at her career success, what is Madison most proud of? It goes back to lessons she learnt from her mum. “I wouldn’t say there’s one singular moment, just carrying out acts of kindness when no one is watching – that’s when it matters the most.”

So, it’s no surprise that the core business value for Madison is simple – Always Care.
