IMI has supplied a 2MW electrolyser to Industria Gas Tecnici S.p.A., (IGAT) marking the company’s entry into green hydrogen production under Italy’s national Hydrogen Valley programme.

IGAT, headquartered in Naples with production facilities in Pignataro Maggiore (Caserta), has over three decades of experience in manufacturing industrial gases, including oxygen, nitrogen and argon. Part of the SIAD Group, the business plays a key role in supplying technical gases to regional industry.

In 2023, IGAT secured funding through the Italian Hydrogen Valley initiative, which supports the development of local hydrogen ecosystems. As part of this project, IMI was selected to provide a 2MW electrolyser to enable onsite production of green hydrogen powered by renewable energy.

The new installation allows IGAT to integrate renewable hydrogen into its existing operations, reducing the carbon intensity of production while maintaining the performance and reliability standards expected in industrial gas manufacturing.

Rather than operating as a standalone, the IMI VIVO electrolyser was designed to sit alongside IGAT’s established processes, demonstrating how hydrogen can be incorporated into conventional gas infrastructure without disrupting operations.

A portion of the hydrogen produced will be used internally, improving energy autonomy and helping to manage operating costs and emissions.

Maurizia Calvisi, Sales Manager at IMI, said: “We are proud to support IGAT in this important step towards energy transition.

“The 2MW electrolyser is a reliable and scalable technological solution designed to support the growth of green hydrogen in industrial processes.

“The collaboration with IGAT demonstrates how the technical gas sector can rapidly evolve towards more sustainable production models.”

Massimo Iorio, CEO of IGAT, added: “With this investment, we are ushering in a new phase for IGAT.

“With this investment, we are inaugurating a new phase for IGAT, continuing our sustainability journey fully in line with the group’s vision.

“The partnership with IMI allows us to integrate advanced technology that is perfectly aligned with our sustainable growth objectives.”
